For over a decade, TutorBox has been trusted by thousands of families to help improve their child’s academic performance, confidence and mindset. That’s a responsibility that we take very seriously, and we look to talented people like you — our amazing team of tutors — to help us deliver on that.
Maybe you have strong grades plus 10 years of experience teaching, or maybe you might have zero experience but feel passionate about starting tutoring. What matters to us beyond just grades & experience is character: are you tutoring for the right reasons, and do you actually want to help these kids do better?

Our centre is open for online and in-centre tutoring from Monday-Thursday, 4-9pm, and Saturdays-Sundays from 10-5pm. Online sessions can be one hour long, while anything in-centre will be a minimum of two hours per session.
Absolutely. As part of our training process you’ll observe a couple of experienced tutors teaching a group, along with a training session with a manager who will guide you through our expectations. Once you’ve started your first few lessons, a manager will then provide ongoing feedback to ensure you’re on track!
We accept tutors from the age of 18 and over, so once you complete your A-Levels. If you are still below the age of 18, you are welcome to volunteer as a teaching assistant to gain some in-class experience.
You can tutor anywhere between 2 to 20 hours per week — it is entirely up to you. Tutoring hours are allocated based on merit; if we see you’re doing a great job, we’ll ask you to take on more and it’s up to you to accept or decline them.
As long as you have the correct tools to do so, any of our in-centre tutors can also teach lessons online. This would usually entail having access to a digital tablet and stylus (iPad & Apple Pencil for example) with a laptop/computer alongside. (We do not accept online-only tutors, for now.)
You won’t have to speak with any parents if you prefer not to. The beauty of our digital system is that parents can be emailed detailed feedback after each lesson, removing the need for a face-to-face meeting.
For Primary lessons, our smart learning tool does all the work for you; students will go through assignments independently and simply ask you for help with random questions whenever they struggle, so you’re more of a troubleshooter.
Secondary group lessons are taught like a school classroom. For example, you would be teaching a year 10 class (average of 8 students) the same topic collectively and then proceed to complete questions on a worksheet. You would then provide individualised support to students if they need you to ensure they understand the topic and are prepared for their 6-weekly tests.
TutorBox will provide all of the worksheets, homework and mark schemes so that all you have to do is deliver an engaging lesson. While we’ve taken away the planning, we do expect you to prepare and re-acquaint yourself with the topics in advance!
Tutors are paid based on a ‘band system’, just like a school. Bands are determined by factors like your qualifications, subjects/levels you are comfortable tutoring and level of experience. Hourly rates vary between £9 to £20 depending on these variables.
